project overview
The Bastar is a boutique e-store bringing the tribal art and handicrafts of Bastar, Chhattisgarh to a global audience. Founded by Shubhank Chandrakar, the platform exists to give recognition and economic dignity to artisan communities whose craft spans centuries. The brand needed an identity and a document that could carry that weight together.
project process
The logo is an emblem, a tribal deity figure set within an oval border with the wordmark THE BASTAR beneath it. The choice to lead with an illustrative mark rather than a wordmark alone was deliberate. The brand needed to communicate heritage and rootedness before a single word is read. The emblem does that instantly. Colour was kept to two. Deep red and cream. Both drawn directly from the visual culture of the region, raw, earthy, and unmistakably Indian without borrowing from generic ethnic design tropes. The brochure was then built within the same language. Cream parchment as the base, terracotta for headings, photography doing the heavy lifting across Bell Metal, Wrought Iron, and Terracotta craft sections. The structure moves from the founder's story to the mission to the craft itself, giving each part the space it deserves.
final result
Logo and emblem, brand identity, colour palette, and a full 13-page print-ready brand brochure.
